The key to this invention is the alignment of the diffraction surface into a tubular structure. The light field appears to vary in color as a person views it from different angles and positions. . Rae has adapted this technique for use in light fixtures, sculpture and environmental signage. Rae has also devised a means to wrap flexible suspension cables with the surface to create monumental color displays.
